David Allen was unable to claim the Commonwealth heavyweight title after a split decision loss to Jamaica’s Lenroy Thomas at Bramall Lane.
The Doncaster man was clearly the stronger of the two fighters, but it was the Jamaican who landed the better shots off the ropes every time Allen pushed him back. The 25-year old Englishman was relentless with his pressure, but it just wasn’t enough.
Despite the disapproval of the Sheffield crowd, Allen was only able to convince one judge, as Thomas walked away with a split decision victory and the Commonwealth title with scores of 115-114 x 2 and 113-115.
“Will I be a world champion? Probably not.” Allen said after the fight. “But I will keep going, I will keep entertaining.”by
