After 15 months out the ring Andy Lee gets back to winning ways with a unanimous points victory over KeAndrae Leatherwood at Madison Square Garden, in New York.

The opening round was cagey from both fighters as they looked to feel each other out. It wasn’t until the second round that both fighters started to land shots – Lee landed a couple of straight left hands while leatherwood landed a solid back hand of his own.

A fast three shot combination from the Irishman in the third got the crowd going a bit. However, Leatherwood finished the round with another solid right hand which snapped Lee’s head back.

Rounds four and five had the crowd calling for more action as there wasn’t much happening from both fighters. However, round six was by far Lee’s best round. A nice stiff jab followed by a left hook to the body seemed to of hurt the American for a moment.

Lee definitely started to settle in to the fight more in the last thee rounds. He started to slip the shots and counter and looked more relaxed. The 32-year old Limerick native was never in any real trouble during the eight round contest and the judges saw that, scoring the fight 80-72, 78-74 and 79-73.

It was a good solid win for Andy Lee who can now build towards the big fights again.
