This Saturday, Adrien Broner, 30-1 (22 KOs) and Shawn Porter, 25-1-1 (16 KOs) battle for Ohio supremacy at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be at a catch weight of 144 lbs.
The fight should be a good one, but is surprisingly shocking (especially with the recent string of PBC fights) for the fact that both guys are high up on Haymon’s pedestal. One might wonder if Haymon is looking to cash out on the loser and looking to propel the winner to the top of his rankings. On paper the matchup looks exciting and highly competitive, but hopefully the catch weight doesn’t affect Porter who is already a big welterweight.
Broner is on a three fight win streak since his sole defeat to Marcos Maidana and looks to keep this streak going. Since the defeat at Maidana’s hands Broner has fought mild opposition and Porter will be his first major challenge since that loss. Broner assures that he is great shape and will be looking for the knockout.
Meanwhile, Porter is coming off a victory against Eric Bone in March which followed his sole defeat to Kell Brook. Porter will look to bully and beat Broner up similar to the way Maidana did and in a similar fashion to his victory over Malignaggi last year.
It will be a bruiser, Porter, with his power, speed and pressure against the more “skilled” counter puncher in Broner. It will be a stiff test for both guys and both guys have something to prove; this is a matchup you don’t want to miss. Tune in Saturday to PBC on NBC to find out who will win the Battle for Ohio.by
