Raymundo Beltrán has failed a drugs test and is facing a suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The 33-year-old tested positive to the anabolic steroid stanozolol immediately after his two-round demolition of Takahiro Ao at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Beltrán, who was set to face Ao for the vacant WBO title before failing to make the weight, has now had his comeback fight –– against Humberto Soto over 10 rounds at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on June 27 –– scratched.
A Mexican-born American, the lightweight contender known as ‘Sugar’ –– 30-7-1 (18) –– has challenged for the title twice previously, losing to now-WBO 140lb kingpin Terence Crawford and being denied a victory against Ricky Burns in Scotland back in September, 2013, when the fight was announced as a draw.
There are ongoing discussions between all relevant parties at present for the aforementioned Soto, 65-8-2 (35), to remain on the HBO-televised card topped by a clash for the vacant WBO welterweight title between former titlist Tim Bradley and undefeated WBA light welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.
