This Saturday, live on Showtime, Andre Berto, 31-4, 24 KOs squares off with Shawn Porter, 26-2-1, 16 KOs in a welterweight title eliminator. In the boxing world, both fighter’s stocks have plummeted, and on paper it is a matchup of two less-than elite fighters; but realistically this is a matchup you won’t want to miss.

Shawn Porter is coming off a loss (albeit a highly entertaining affair) to Keith Thurman and is 2-2 in his last four. Andre Berto is coming off a knockout victory against Victor Ortiz, but is 4-4 in his last 8 fights. Berto has been around for a long time and has been considered a journeyman for a while, but everytime he steps into the ring it is exciting. Meanwhile, Shawn Porter looked to be a top contender in the welterweight division until he stepped up against elite competition, in which he lost to Kell Brook and Keith Thurman.

The welterweight division is one of the hottest in boxing right now, and the winner will live to fight another day, meanwhile the loser’s career may be in jeopardy and will take some rebuilding. Both guys have plenty to lose and both guys have plenty to gain… making this all the more interesting.

Stylistically, this is poised to be a highly exciting affair and will be one you don’t want to miss. Berto and Porter both pack a punch and both have been shown to be vulnerable. Both guys are strong, fast, powerful and athletic, but each possesses a different style. Shawn Porter applies relentless pressure and can get sloppy at times, while Andre Berto can punch and will likely look to land his signature uppercut when Porter rushes in.

It’s a fight where anything can happen and either guy could win and be in line for another major payday at welterweight. It’s also a fight where the loser is going to have to reconsider their future in the sport of boxing. With this much at stake, it’s a matchup you don’t want to miss. Tune in Saturday to see who will emerge victorious.
