Burnett Gets Stateside Opportunity

Ryan Burnett will make his American debut next month.

The Belfast bantamweight, 8-0 (6KOs), was given the golden opportunity less than 24 hours after his last outing.

After securing a points victory against Frenchman Faycal Messaoudene at London’s York Hall on Friday, live and exclusive on BoxNation, the undefeated 22-year-old was handed the news.

He’ll feature at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 11 as part of the supporting cast to gym-mate Andy Lee’s maiden WBO middleweight title defence against Peter Quillin.

The card is topped by a Premier Boxing Champions clash between Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia and will be live on NBC across the pond and BoxNation in the UK.

Peterson is the IBF world titlist at super lightweight, while Garcia holds the WBC and WBA Super straps at the weight. But the pair will fight over 12 rounds in a 143lb catchweight bout with no titles on the line.
