Are boxing fans still talking about Mayweather and McGregor? On Sept. 16th, boxing fans will get the joy of watching a mouth watering matchup which they have been waiting on for over a year. But where is all the hype? 2017 has been full of terrific matchups, and what better of a matchup to start out the fourth quarter than Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.
Like many have said, this is a true old school boxing match; with two of the best fighters going at it touting tremendous records in the boxing ring. Canelo Alvarez is 49-1-1, 34 KOs and has defeated the likes of Miguel Cotto, Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara and Amir Khan. His sole defeat came at the hands of Floyd Mayweather when he was 23 years old. Meanwhile, Gennady Golovkin is 37-0, 33 KOs, and has defeated the likes of Daniel Jacobs, Kell Brook and David Lemieux.
This is a fight where not only do we have the two best middleweights going at it, but we have two fighters in the top 10 Pound 4 Pound and two of boxings most popular warriors sharing the ring. This matchup presents a clash of styles and offers many significant questions. Will Golovkin’s power be too much for Canelo? Does Canelo possess the footwork to escape GGG’s relentless but smart aggression and to get away from his jab? Or will Canelo’s youth be too much for the 35 year old Golovkin, and is this the perfect time for the younger man to step into the ring with his most dangerous foe yet? It will be Golovkin’s strength, power and his smart aggressive style against Canelo’s combination punching, body work and counter punches. There are so many factors at play in this matchup; it is definitely a tough one to predict and I keep going back and forth on my pick for the winner.
This is a true super fight, but last weekend’s fiasco has stolen some of the thunder and its hype. Boxing fans, we need to quit talking about that circus act and focus on the true fight at hand! For some reason, there is not enough promotion and headlines talking about Canelo vs. GGG. I am calling on all boxing fans to help promote this fight by commenting on the articles, sharing the videos and posts on social media about this fight and talking to your friends about this matchup. Let’s do our part as fans and give this fight the coverage it deserves and quit glorifying corny matchups and WWE style UFC fights.
This is a matchup that is worth every penny, and boxing fans, regardless of your financial situation, don’t be a cheap ass and try to find a choppy and blurry stream, you need to order this fight. Tell your friends how this type of matchup doesn’t come around too often and it is a must-see matchup that is sure to produce fireworks. Boxing fans, are you ready for a true super fight, a matchup like this hasn’t happened in years, so my question is, where will you be watching the battle for middleweight supremacy.by
