One of Puerto Rico’s best fighters of all-time, Middleweight world champion Miguel Cotto, has signed a new promotional deal with hip-hop mogul Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
Cotto and Roc Nation Sports made the announcement earlier today. While on ESPN’s “First Take”, Cotto also mentioned his in-ring return which will be on June 6th at the Madison Square Garden in New York, no opponent has been announced yet.
Cotto, Puerto Rico’s only four-division titlist, joins Super Middleweight champion Andre Ward as Roc Nation’s two most high-profile signings. It’s a multifight, multiyear contract with Roc Nation who reportedly made Cotto an offer he couldn’t refuse. Cotto has had a long history with Top Rank, Cotto only had two fights without the Top Rank banner, and one of those fights was his loss to Floyd Mayweather back in 2012.
There were negotiations beforehand involving a potential fight between Cotto and Canelo; however that fell through, back in January. Rumors ran rampant about a potential rematch with Mayweather but that also fell through, leaving Cotto without a dance partner.
Many names have been mentioned as potential opponents for Cotto, like Britain’s own Amir Khan, but Detroit native Cornelius “K9” Bundrage is seen as the leading candidate. After an impressive win against former Middleweight world Champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, Cotto looks forward to continue his legacy with Roc Nation.by
