This Saturday we see IBO World Super Middleweight Chris Eubank Jr (25-1, 19 KO) in a tough fight against unbeaten Turk Avni Yildirim (16-0, 10 KO). The fight will take place in Stuttgart, Germany and is part of the World Boxing Super Series.
Eubank Jr is a controversial figure, much like his father was, Eubank Jr is flashy, style over substance at times, but can fight. His World Boxing Super Series eliminator, was a win over Arthur Abraham (46-5) on July 15 at the Wembley Arena, a fight that on paper was tougher than some inside the tournament. Abraham, after all, is a former titleholder at 160 and 168 but it looked a fight too far for Abraham, as the younger Eubank looked too fast and too strong for him.
Chris Eubank Sr will be familiar with fighting in Germany as 23 years ago he traveled to Berlin, Germany, to Fight the Unbeaten Graciano Rocchigiani and won a Unanimous Decision to defend his WBO Super Middleweight Title
Turkey’s undefeated Yildirim, 26, in 2015 outpointed respected former world champion Glen Johnson, and criticised Eubank Jnr’s presence at Floyd Mayweather’s camp in the build-up to the American’s fight with Conor McGregor. ‘What is Chris going to learn there, apart from hide-and-seek?,’ he said. ‘I like Mayweather, he is a special guy. But Eubank is not Mayweather. Seriously, what is he going to learn from a welterweight, to run away for 12 rounds?
‘The fans want a fight, I want a fight. If he is man enough, me versus Chris will be a good fight.
Yildirim also has wins over Jackson Junior, Aaron Pryor Jr, Schiller Hyppolite, and most recently, Marco Antonio Periban. He beat Periban by clear decision on May 13, on the road in Mexico, for what was probably his best win.by
