This Saturday, October 3rd, Lucas Matthysse, 37-3 (34 KOs) gets his second crack at a world title as he takes on undefeated Viktor Postol, 27-0 (11 KOs) on HBO.
Despite having a strong resume with victories over Ruslan Provodnikov, John Molina Jr., Lamont Peterson, Ajose Olusegun, and Humberto Soto; along with close and controversial losses to Devon Alexander, Zab Judah and Danny Garcia, Matthysse has yet to achieve his goal of becoming a champion. This Saturday he has a chance when he fights for the vacant WBC super lightweight title.
Standing in his way will be Viktor Postol, whom although remains the underdog, will definitely be no cakewalk. In his corner is Freddie Roach who will look to use Postol’s height, high work rate and jab to make it a long night for Matthysse. And despite a limited resume, Postol has yet to taste defeat and the last time he faced a hard hitter like Matthyse, Secluk Aydin, Postol put on a clinic only to finish him in the 11th.
Matthysse is no Aydin though and he is battle tested. Not only does he have power in both hands but Lucas can box; setting up his offense and effectively cutting off the ring. The way Postol stands so upright with little head movement could be a recipe for brutality. But if Postol has worked on this and moves around the ring, he will cause Matthysse difficulties.
It is the classic boxer versus puncher matchup and with Matthysse’s offensive firepower and Postol’s high work rate; the fight is one that is bound to produce fireworks. The clash of styles make Saturdays fight a matchup you don’t want to miss.by
