It’s looking more likely that the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Cinco De Mayo weekend showdown will take place is Las Vegas as expected. Golden Boy Promotions, who recently announced their partnership deal with ESPN, has reserved the MGM Grand Conference Center as a venue for an event scheduled for May 5, 2017, according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. That date happens to be the actual Cinco De Mayo holiday and also the eve of Canelo-Chavez Jr. Per NSAC, Golden Boy still has the T-Mobile being held for Canelo-Chavez Jr.
This is be a very wise move from a business perspective as fans on the fence about traveling out for the fight would be able to enjoy back-to-back nights of action. Fans could also choose the smaller but affordable event but still be around for the weekend’s festivities. Golden Boy recently announced their ESPN debut set for March 23, 2017 with emerging prospect Jason Quigley of Ireland up against veteran slugger Glen Tapia. Quigley-Tapia will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.by
