On Saturday the 8th of June Josesito Lopez and Marcos Maidana meet at the Home Depot Centre in Carson, California.
This welterweight match up is important for both men. The winner will strengthen his position near the top of the welterweight division. The loser however will fall further down the pecking order.
Josesito Lopez (30-5 18 KO’s) is coming off a loss against light middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, a fight no one expected him to win anyway. While Marcos Maidana (33-3 30 KO’s) is coming off a win against little known Angel Martinez in his homeland of Argentina.
Looking at this fight its a tough one to call. Lopez is coming off a knockout loss, but has shown in his fight with Victor Ortiz that he can put on a performance and upset the odds. Maidana on the other hand has never been stopped in his 36 fight career and with Lopez only having 18 KO’s, I can see this being a 12 round war.
Both fighters have natural aggression, but I see Lopez being the busier fighter landing crisp shots. Maidana will be looking for that knockout shot, but I think Lopez who will be fired up by his home crowd will soften Maidana up with hard and fast combinations, and will win the fight by unanimous decision.
