Jamie Kavanagh has a new promotional deal after agreeing terms with MGM Promotions.
The 25-year-old, who signed a managerial contract with Daniel Kinahan of MGM Marbella last week, will fight under the Spain-based banner for four fights after his release by American promotion powerhouse Golden Boy Promotions.
Kavanagh has an impressive record of 18-1-1 (9) and has spent the majority of his professional career in the United States, but the Dubliner has decided that a move to Europe will lead to homecoming contests in the UK and Ireland.
“This is the move I have wanted to make for a while,” said Kavanagh, who is expected to fight in the UK –– on a Frank Warren-promoted BoxNation-televised show –– in September.
Hoping to get a win under his belt in the autumn, the lightweight –– who has spoken of his desire to get in the ring with [WBA interim champion] Derry Mathews, [former WBO European titlist] Stephen Ormond and [WBO world champion] Terry Flanagan to name but a few in the talent-laden nine-stone nine division –– is expecting an outing in Ireland to be confirmed for pre-Christmas.
“I´m really looking forward to making my mark on this side of the world and getting started,” he concluded.
Kinahan, Matthew Macklin and the remainder of the MGM managerial team are excited about their latest acquisition.
They said: “We intend to get him better known by the public by getting him big domestic fights in Ireland and the UK, live on TV.
“People forget he is only 25 as he has had 19 fights, which were nearly all away –– in Mexico or LA.
“We believe Jamie is already up there with the top lightweights in Europe and are keen to get him going.”by
