Las Vegas, Nevada – It was another close fight. Another Majority Decision (115-113, 115-113, 114-114). But this time the winner was Leo Santa Cruz. FirstClassBoxing.com scored it 116-112 in favor of the challenger but mainy of the rounds were close. Santa Cruz maintained distanced and worked the jab, while Frampton looked to counter and engage Santa Cruz in a brawl. When it was against the ropes, Frampton scored on the inside, when in the middle of the ring, Santa Cruz had an excellent handle on his jab. There were many toe-to-toe exchanges. In terms of total punches, Frampton landed 133 of 592 (22%) with Santa Cruz landing 230 of 884 (26%). Santa Cruz threw 417 jabs in which he landed 81 (19%) to Frampton’s 28 of 187 (15%). Santa Cruz out-landed Frampton in power shots 149 to 105.
In the co-main event, Mikey Garcia stayed undefeated and showed that his time away from the ring did not hamper his skills. Garcia used his jab effectively and wore down the undefeated Dejan Zlaticanin leading to a brutal 3rd round KO that left Zlaticanin out cold.
On the Showtime Extreme portion of the event, Edinburgh’s Josh Taylor remained perfect with solid performance over a gutsy Alfonso Olvera via unanimous decision (79-72, 78-73 x 2). The 20-year Super Middleweight David Benavidez continued to thrill fans and media with his power. Sherali Mamadjanov only lasted until 1:04 into the 2nd round until the ref waved it off leading cementing Benavidez’s TKO victory. The Showtime Extreme main event was a back and forth affair from Ivan Redkach vs. Demond Brock. Both went back and forth every round until Redkach dropped Brock in the 8th round forcing the ref to stop the contest 20 seconds before the final bell.
