Forest Hall’s British lightweight champion Lewis “The Sandman” Ritson (14-0-0) promises he won’t be relinquishing his British title anytime soon when he faces former British title holder Scotty Cardle (22-1-1) on the Matchroom boxing undercard of the Whyte vs. Browne WBC Silver heavyweight title 24th March at the O2 Arena, London, live on Sky Sports.
The Sandman is embracing his busy schedule of bouts after recently signing with Matchroom boxing only just last year.
It is Ritson’s second defence of the British lightweight title after winning the belt in fashion against Robbie Barrett via TKO in round seven in October of last year, Barrett previously had beaten Cardle on a majority decision which gave Cardle his first defeat as a professional.
Ritson then went on to produce a statement first defence victory over Joe Murray in the first round in Manchester on the 25th February on the Matchroom Boxing JDNXTGEN show.
Ritson went on to say “ I don’t plan on losing the British title, the plan is to have three defences and keep it outright”
something Cardle came close to doing until defeat by Barrett.
Cardle from Lyntham St Anne’s said “Lewis showed against Murray what he can do, he’s a deserved British champion but obviously I believe that he’s just holding that belt for me to take it from him.
North East boxing stars Lewis Ritson and Josh Kelly who fights former world champion Carlos Molina on the undercard of Joshua vs. Parker March 31st in Cardiff have both been given big stages to shine on by promoter Eddie Hearn, ahead of Matchroom boxing looking to travel to Newcastle in 2018.by
