A deal between Lucas Mattysse (39-4, 36KOs) and Manny Pacquiao (59-7, 38 KOs) is almost done and an agreement has been reached verbally according to reports.
July 8th will be fight night in Kuala Lumpur, Malayasia it is believed. Pacquiao’s team has recently asserted that their deal with Top Rank has expired, the promotional company is expected to be involved in the fight, just not in the lead promoter role.
Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions will take the lead in this fight with Top Rank expected to handle US distribution via its ESPN deal. Golden Boy, who handles Matthysse, is also going to be involved within the promotion.
The fight is anticipated to take place early morning on July 8 (Malayasian time) so that it can be aired primetime in the US on Saturday night (July 7).
The reason for the postponement of the original date (June 24th) is because the date conflicted with Ramadan, according to the Manila Bulletin.
Matthsse, 35, last fight against Tewa Kiram (38-1, 28 KOs) was where he won the WBA welterweight title, January 27 at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
Pacquiao, 39, will be coming off of a 1-year layoff when he faces Matthysse on July 8th in Malaysia. In Pacquiao’s last performance, he was roughed up by a very physical Australian Jeff Horn in losing a 12 round controversial unanimous decision in an ill-advised fight on July 2nd in Brisbane, Australia. Pacquiao has been busy with his senatorial career in the Philippines since that fight.
Robert Garcia reportedly wants four weight world champion Mikey Garcia (38-0, 30 KOs) to move up to welterweight to challenge Matthysse however Pacquiao may have other ideas.by
