Ishe Smith is returning to the ring in the autumn after having his next contest confirmed.
The former IBF light middleweight champion will box at the MGM Grand on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s WBC & WBA Super welterweight title defence against Andre Berto.
Las Vegas’ Smith, who lost his global silverware to Carlos Molina in 2013, is set to come up against Vanes Martirosyan on September 12 over 10 rounds.
Armenian-born Martirosyan (35-2-1, 21KOs) is coming into the battle on the back of a defeat to Jermell Charlo in March, while ‘Sugar Shay’ –– who has a record of 27-7 (12) –– last scored a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Cecil McCalla a month later.
Their clash will open the Showtime pay-per-view telecast and will feature alongside two world title fights.
Hammersmith super middleweight George Groves will hope that it’s third time lucky when he challenges US-based Swede Badou Jack for the WBC title.
Groves, 21-2 (16), has been unsuccessful in two challenges for the WBA and IBF crowns against the now-retired Carl Froch in November, 2013 and May, 2014 respectively.
Elsewhere, Roman Martinez will defend his world title on the bill.
‘Rocky’ will put his WBO super featherweight title on the line against Orlando Salido –– the man he dethroned on points in April to claim the crown –– in an immediate rematch.
And ‘The Money Team’ featherweight prospect Gervonta Davis, 20, who is 11-0 (10), is set to feature on the card.by
