O’Sullivan Signs Deal For Eubank Jr. Clash

By Elliot Foster (@FreelanceFoz)

The highly anticipated clash between middleweight rivals Gary O’Sullivan and Chris Eubank Jr. appears to be a step closer.

O’Sullivan, from Cork, Ireland, has posted an image on social media, confirming that he has taken the fight against the enigmatic 26-year-old.

The duo will be in opposite corners on December 12, at London’s O2 Arena, as part of Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing’s sold-out ‘Bad Intentions’ card, which is topped by the three-title tussle between heavyweight rivals Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.

It is expected that the clash between Eubank Jr. and O’Sullivan –– who scored a stoppage win in the States last weekend –– will hold a final eliminator status with the WBA, with the winner in pole position to face the winner of the title fight between Danny Jacobs and Peter Quillin a week earlier on December 5.

Further news as to the exact prestige of the showdown will be released in due course.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has reacted to the news that ‘Spike’ has signed to fight Eubank Jr. –– who must win against Tony Jeter in Sheffield next weekend to rubber-stamp the clash –– saying: “Fair play to you, Spike. This is going to be a huge fight.”

Elsewhere, WBC International lightweight champion Luke Campbell will box for the first time since claiming local bragging rights in August when he stopped local rival Tommy Coyle.

And he will be joined by Liverpool cruiserweight Tony Bellew, who wants a big fight as he continues his campaign for a shot at a third world title.

Meanwhile, Kevin Mitchell will be in action on the card after recovering from an eye injury.

The Dagenham lightweight, who was stopped by Jorge Linares in a challenge for the Venezuelan’s WBC strap back in May, will be hoping to get a big win under his belt before stepping on the gas towards another world title shot.

Tickets for the highly anticipated bill-topper between Joshua and Whyte, which is to be flanked by a star-studded undercard, sold-out in six hours, but there are still limited tickets remaining at www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets.
