Our Top 3 Fighters in Each Division

First Class Boxing’s Top 3 Fighters in Each Weight Class – December 2016

As opposed to listing the various belt holders in each weight class, FirstClassBoxing.com has decided to rate their top 3 boxers in each division.

Heavyweight – 201+ lbs

  1. Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KO)
  2. Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KO)
  3. Deontay Wilder (37-0, 36 KO)

Comments: Fury beat Klitschko and Wilder is nursing an injury. These three will remain intact until one of them fights again at the least. April 29, 2017 will be a big day for the division.

Cruiserweight – 200 lbs

  1. Oleksandr Usyk (11-0, 10 KO)
  2. Krzysztof Glowacki (26-1, 16 KO)
  3. Marco Huck (40-3, 27 KO)

Comments: Would like to see Glowacki and Huck fight each other again. Usyk dominated in his U.S. debut.

Light Heavyweight – 175 lbs

  1. Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KO)
  2. Sergey Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KO)
  3. Adonis Stevenson (28-1, 23 KO)

Comments: Joe Smith Jr. is has the potential to reach the top 3 if he stays active against quality opposition.

Super Middleweight – 168 lbs

  1. Gilberto Ramirez (34-0, 24 KO)
  2. James DeGale (23-1, 14 KO)
  3. Badou Jack (20-1-2, 12 KO)

Comments: January 14th, 2017 will be a big day in the division.

Middleweight – 160 lbs

  1. Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KO)
  2. Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KO)
  3. Billy Joe Saunders (24-0, 12 KO)

Comments: March 18th, 2017 will hopefully show who the best Middleweight in the world is.

Junior Middleweight – 154 lbs

  1. Saul Canelo Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KO)
  2. Erislandy Lara (23-2-2, 13 KO)
  3. Jermall Charlo (25-0, 19 KO)

Comments: Charlo looked impressive against Julian Williams. Canelo may be stated to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at 165 lbs. Unfortunately, Lara is fighting Yuri Foreman.

Welterweight – 147 lbs

  1. Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KO)
  2. Keith Thurman (27-0, 22 KO)
  3. Danny Garcia (33-0, 19 KO)

Comments: We can only hope Thurman-Garcia produces the same fireworks as Thurman-Porter.

Junior Welterweight 140 lbs

  1. Terence Crawford (30-0, 21 KO)
  2. Viktor Postol (28-1, 12 KO)
  3. Adrien Broner (32-2, 24 KO)

Comments: Adrien Broner is undefeated as a Junior Welterweight and is schedule to fight Adrian Granados on February 11, 2017.

Lightweight – 135 lbs

  1. Rances Barthelemy (25-0, 13 KO)
  2. Terry Flannigan (32-0, 13 KO)
  3. Jorge Linares (41-3, 27 KO)

Comments: Flannigan’s TKO of Orlando Cruz moves him ahead of Linares.

Junior Lightweight – 130 lbs

  1. Vasyl Lomachenko (7-1, 5 KO)
  2. Francisco Vargas (23-0-2, 17 KO)
  3. Orlando Salido (43-13-4, 30 KO)

Comments: Nicholas Walter’s bleak performance against Lomachenko makes room for Salido.

Featherweight – 126 lbs

  1. Carl Frampton (23-0, 14 KO)
  2. Leo Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KO)
  3. Oscar Valdez (21-0, 19 KO)

Comments: Oscar Valdez, Abner Mares, and Joseph Diaz Jr. all picked up victories in the last 2 months. A very tough division with young talent.

Junior Featherweight – 122 lbs

  1. Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KO)
  2. Jonathan Guzman (22-0, 22 KO)
  3. Scott Quigg (32-1-2, 23 KO)

Comments: Rigondeaux would be pound-for-pound ranked if he fought more. Many people overlook Guzman’s 22 KOs in 22 fights.

Bantamweight – 118 lbs

  1. Shinsuke Yamanaka (26-0-2, 18 KO)
  2. Jamie McDonnell (29-2-1, 13 KO)
  3. Lee Haskins (34-3, 14 KO)

Comments: A Haskins-McDonnell rematch is due for a shot at Yamanaka.

Junior Bantamweight – 115 lbs

  1. Roman Gonzalez (46-0, 38 KO)
  2. Juan Francisco Estrada (34-2, 24 KO)
  3. Naoya Inoue (11-0, 9 KO)

Comments: Gonzalez versus either of the two would be a great headliner but he’s looking at Cuadras on March 18th, 2017. Inoue, who fights on December 30 in Japan, is very dangerous.

Flyweight – 112 lbs

  1. Kazuto Ioka (20-1, 12 KO)
  2. Donnie Nietes (39-1-4, 22 KO)
  3. Juan Carlos Reveco (37-3, 19 KO)

Comments: Fighters jumping weights have left the title picture in shambles.

Junior Flyweight – 108 lbs

  1. Ganigan Lopez (28-6, 17 KO)
  2. Pedro Guevara (29-2-1, 17 KO)
  3. Ryoichi Taguchi (25-2-1, 11 KO)

Comments: Another division in need of a unification bout. Good thing is that Lopez and Guevara have already fought each other once.

Strawweight – 105 lbs

  1. Chayaphon Moonsri (44-0, 17 KO)
  2. Thammanoon Niyomtrong (14-0, 6 KO)
  3. Jose Argumedo (19-3-1, 11 KO)

Comments: Moonsri is running out of opponents. How about the younger Niyomtrong? All three picked up victories recently.
