Pacquiao has to leave Top Rank to fight me – Floyd Mayweather

By Andrew McCart

Floyd Mayweather recently stated that Manny Pacquiao was a has-been, after his back-to-back defeats to Bradley and Marquez. However, Pacquiao responded to this by saying, that is not the case and still wants to face boxings pound-for-pound king. In a more recent interview, Mayweather said the only way he would fight Pacquiao is if he leaves Top Rank and signs with Mayweather Promotions.

“The only way he’s getting the fight with me is if he signs with Mayweather Promotions. He’s got to give me fights with Mayweather Promotions. If he don’t give me no fights under Mayweather Promotions, then he’s not getting the fight. That’s how it is working now, because the ball is in my court. The ball has been in my court. I have been the A side.” He added.

There is no way Manny would sign with Mayweather Promotions. However the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is still talked about because, if Floyd Mayweather beats Canelo Alvarez in September, who will be next? Khan or Alexander? Pacquiao would still generate more money than any of Mayweather’s next opponents after Canelo. People in boxing always say boxing is a business and a business needs to make money. So that is why a fight with Mayweather and Pacquiao is still talked about and making headlines. Also it’s still a fight the majority of boxing fans want to see.
