Las Vegas, NV- At Frampton-Santa Cruz 2 media luncheon, Showtime Shawn Porter spoke to the press regarding his future plans and tomorrow night’s fight card. Porter recently sparred with Edinburgh, Scotland’s Josh Taylor (7-0, 7 KO), who will be making a television appearance on the Showtime Extreme broadcast portion of tomorrow’s card. Both Carl Frampton and Taylor have spent the past weeks in Las Vegas training in order to acclimate to the time change and desert weather. When FirstClassBoxing.com asked about sparring with Taylor, Porter had a huge smile on his face. “[Taylor] is slick, he’s a southpaw, he’s tall, he’s rangy, he knows how to use his height and his range, the experience coming from the amateur program and the olympics, definitely was fun getting into the ring with him”.
Taylor is facing Alfonso Olivera (8-2-1, 3 KO) of Sonora, Mexico in a 10-round bout. Olivera is expected to be a challenge for Taylor, given Olivera’s come-forward style and stocky build. However, Porter is expecting great things from Taylor tomorrow night and is looking forward to seeing him perform, “I wouldn’t be surprised if [Taylor] stops this guy, definitely is going to outbox him”.
