Smith-Fielding On For November, British, WBC Silver Titles At Stake

By Elliot Foster (@FreelanceFoz)

Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding will meet in the autumn in a long-awaited clash.

The Liverpool duo, who hold a combined record of 38 wins and 24 stoppages, are set to face off at the ECHO Arena, live on Sky Sports.

WBC Silver champion Smith, 25, will put his belt on the line against the governing body’s International titlist, 27-year-old Fielding, on November 7, with the vacant British super middleweight title also on the line.

The Lonsdale belt was relinquished by the eldest Smith brother, Paul, recently –– and that resulted in the British Boxing Board of Control ordering a clash between the unbeaten pair, who shared top billing in their home city in June.

Smith dropped Christopher Rebrasse on the way to scoring a wide points decision against the Frenchman and Fielding — a former WBA Inter-Continental belt holder — saw off the challenge of Texas’ former world title challenger Bryan Vera inside two rounds.

Promoter of the couple, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, wanted to hold off from making the battle until it was for something “more meaningful, like a final eliminator [for a world title],” but it appears he has now reneged on that and succumbed to the demand of the public, who have been wanting the clash to happen for some considerable time.

He said: “This is one of the biggest domestic fights of the year and such a fascinating fight.

“Neither fighter would back down or out of this fight and now fight fans get an absolute cracker. It is 21-0 vs. 17-0, both fighters are ranked highly across all world governing bodies, there is going to be some atmosphere at a packed ECHO Arena on November 7 but the big question – Who’s Fooling Who?”

Full undercard details will be released in due course.

Tickets will go on sale to Matchroom Fight Pass members on Monday, August 31 from midday from the Fight Pass area at Tickets are priced at £40, £60, £80, £100 and £200 (VIP).
