Gary Sweeney has joined the ranks at MGM Marbella.
The 21-year-old , who is set to make his debut in South Africa, has signed managerial terms with the team who also look after the likes of Derry Mathews, Jamie Conlan and Thomas Stalker.
Sweeney is promoted by Rodney Berman and Golden Gloves and was a seven-time Irish champion who captured silver at the European Union Championships when representing his country in the headguard and vest.
He’ll make his bow in the paid code on September 19, live on South African television, and the MGM management team believe their latest charge will be something to behold as he aims to climb the cruiserweight ranks.
“With Gary’s amateur record, Golden Gloves promoting him and ourselves managing him, we believe Gary has all the ingredients to reach the very top,” they said.
“We have been very impressed with him and his attitude makes us believe he is going all the way.”
Elsewhere, the burgeoning Spain-based outfit have secured the signature of Craig O’Brien.
The Irish light middleweight, who has already amassed two wins from two since turning over in February, will train under Niall Byrne in Dublin and have his career guided by former three-time world title challenger Matthew Macklin and the well-known Daniel Kinahan.by
