Bob Arum has revealed the three fighters who are in consideration to fight Manny Pacquiao in a comeback fight this autumn.
Arum has been told to find the Philippine legend an opponent and a venue in Las Vegas for either October 29 or November 5.
The promoter stated that three potential candidates are in line for a shot at ‘Pac Man’: “I’ve said that the three guys that are now being considered would be the two welterweight champions Danny Garcia and Jessie Vargas.
“Freddie thinks that Manny wants to go down to 140, which is his natural weight, and fight at that level, so the winner of Crawford-Postol, if the winner emerges like we think he will with all of the credentials – then the winner of that fight could be in the No 1 position.”
Arum’s comments seem to suggest that he feels that Terence Crawford will emerge from the battle of the 28-0’s on July 23, and could then go on to face Pacquiao seeing as he is the sole member of the prospective trio that boxes at 140 pounds currently.
Welterweights Garcia (32-0-KO18) and Vargas (28-1-KO10) are both titleholders in their weightclass, with Garcia holding the WBC strap and Vargas in possession of the WBO belt.
Pacquiao, a world-title holder in a record eight divisions, had appeared to have signed off on a historic career in April with a points win over Timothy Bradley Jr. in their rubber match. However, he is now expected to return to the sport that he describes as his “passion” for at least one more bout.by
