On September 5 MGM Scotland will host a bumper night of professional boxing, at the Meadowbank Sports Arena in Edinburgh.
The bill will see a host of Scotland’s young boxing talent make their professional debut. One of them being the current Scottish 60kg (lightweight) amateur champion, Stephen Tiffney.
Tiffney has waited a long time to make his professional debut and the Scot can’t wait to finally step in to the ring on September 5.
“I’m really, really excited.” Tiffney told FirstClassBoxing. “I’ve been waiting for ages for this moment. It’s been 15 or 16 years I’ve been doing this and it’s great that it’s in Edinburgh. So, I’m really excited and can’t wait.”
The 26-year old won elite Scottish 60kg (lightweight) title, his first elite title. But Tiffney believes he can make the featherweight limit in the pro ranks.
“It was good to finally get my first senior elite championship. I’ve been close in some of the years before. I lost out in some close fights against Joe Ham. So, it was good to get that one.
“I’ll not be fighting at lightweight in the pro’s. My debut will be super featherweight. I’ll make featherweight easy and I’ll see how it goes from there.”
Tiffney has signed a promotional/managerial deal with MGM Marbella and MGM Scotland. With MGM promising to put on regular shows, the Newtongrange native believes with the team he has behind him, he can go far in the paid ranks.
“MGM have a very good set up. They’re new on the scene as well, but they’re really big for the amount of time they have been going. I think it’s only going to get bigger and better. For MGM Marbella and Scotland the more shows they put on the better.
“For myself and also my club mates, we’ll go really far in the pro’s.”
WIth fight night just over one week away, Tiffney expects the fans in attendance to enjoy a good night boxing.
“I’m not going to promise a fancy knockout, but I have trained hard for this. With the way I fight I expect it to be an exciting fight and I expect the fans to enjoy the night.”by
